Biking over 7,000 Miles for Water in Africa

Alak Goswami is on a quest to bring water to Africa. Alak, a corporate attorney living in New York City, is embarking on the Tour d'Afrique bike tour from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa with the goal to bring clean water to communities in Africa through the non-profit charity: water.

The bike tour is over 7,000 miles, and will take 4 months to complete.  Alak's journey began January 12, 2008 and Alak will keep us posted on what is sure to be both an epic and scenic journey through his blog and pictures available through his website www.gogoswami.com.

"To see every continent by bicycle is a lifelong goal of mine. Traveling by bicycle challenges and benefits me in so many ways.  Seeing and feeling the landscape, meeting new friends, and learning about different cultures firsthand has been wonderfully enriching experience.  Seeing the difficulties of everyday life that so many people must suffer with, makes me thankful for what I have and makes me feel obligated to help in some small way.  Never having to ration or worry about water myself, it was difficult to imagine that so many people have no reliable water source.  But that is exactly the struggle that many face.  Hopefully, I can help by bringing a little awareness and relief to the struggle of so many. “stated Alak.
